A CHEF from Codford is celebrating after winning a gold medal in a top national catering competition.
Elaine Morris, 46, took first prize in the celebration cake category at an annual contest for chefs working for defence catering contractors ESS. Mrs Morris works at the Land Warfare Centre in Warminster.
The event, held at Birmingham College of Food, saw more than 70 chefs battling for supremacy in 11 different classes. Second chef, Mrs Morris, impressed the judges with her Sunflower cake - an oval-shaped fruitcake decorated with icing, marzipan and sugar sunflowers.
"I wanted to create something that was sunny and bold," she said. "The whole process took several months overall because once you have made the cake itself, you have to wait until it has matured before putting the marzipan and icing on. "I then made the sugar sunflowers right at the end."
This is not the first time Mrs Morris has achieved success at the event. She previously took gold in the same category in 2003 and secured a silver medal last year.
