THE motivations are different for everyone but the enthusiasm of those taking part in the Bath Half Marathon is always inspiring.
For 26-year-old Hilary Jones the death of her mother, Geraldine in 2000 has prompted her to run on behalf of Cancer Research UK. She said: "I wanted to do something that not only helped me remember my mum, but also helped Cancer Research UK by raising awareness and, more practically, money for further research and information. Luckily for me my friends and workmates are prepared to pay to see me run."
Miss Jones' mother was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus in September 2000 and died on December 3. Miss Jones, who works for Lifetime Carers in Trowbridge, has completed Race for Life four times but this is her first half marathon and she hopes to complete it in two hours.
- Fernando Rodriguez, 36, of Gloucester Road, Trowbridge, is hoping to beat last year's time of 1hr 38mins.
Last year he raised funds for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. This year he will support the Tiny Lives premature babies appeal at Bristol's Frenchay Hospital. He will be cheered on by his wife Anna and sons James, 13, Jack, four and 17-month-old Joshua.
