CHURCHES across Wiltshire are now eligible for an award to help with planning alterations or developments to their buildings.
The new scheme was launched last weekend at a meeting of the Church's local parliament, the Diocesan Synod. Designed by the Salisbury Diocesan Advisory Committee for the Care of Churches and Churchyards, the scheme has already allocated some funding.
Christ Church in Warminster was one of the first recipients of the award for their re-ordering project conducted in 2004. This resulted in the creation of a church centre' within the building, including a coffee bar, parish office, toilets and a meeting area.
Sue Cannings, secretary of the DAC, believes the scheme rewards exceptional applications. "This wide ranging award scheme will reflect the diversity and quality of applications we receive," she said.
