Trowbridge town centre is getting a ‘new look’ this week with the opening of a national chain and a shop dealing with chains of a different variety.

A Trowbridge-born TV model opened a New Look store in The Gateway development this morning and a new cycle shop opens this weekend.

Lisa-Ann Hillman, a contestant on reality TV show Britain’s Next Top Model earlier this year, cut the ribbon of the new two-storey New Look shop.

Most of the strore’s 49 employees transferred from the chain’s former outlet in The Shires shopping centre, with 14 new people being employed.

Next is due to open its store on the development later this month, although an opening date has not yet been confirmed.

Meanwhile Shaun Kettlety believes the opening of his cycling store on Saturday will help breathe new life into Trowbridge.

Mr Kettlety, 43, from Semington, and his business partner Darren Smith, from Edington, will open their store Cycle Around, in the former Philip Robinson shop in Silver Street at 9am.

A former employee at Moulton’s Bicycle Company in Bradford on Avon, Mr Kettlety is now a self-employed engineer, having previously worked for Marcos Cars in Westbury and Enduros Cars in Coventry.

He first set up his cycling venture in Trowbridge market six months ago, and said he is looking forward to opening his town centre store.

“It’s something good for the town.

“Where we are with the economic climate, it’s nice to see something new opening up.”
