CONSERVATIVE Rod Eaton has taken the Melksham North seat by more than 100 votes.
The former West Wiltshire district councillor secured 535 votes, beating off competition from Lib Dem Andrew Clayton who had 425 votes.
Labour's former Wiltshire county councillor and ex-Melksham mayor Margaret White had to settle for third place with just 66 votes.
Mrs White said: "I'm not surprised because I am thinking people are taking on board national issues rather than what's happening locally. I have worked very, very hard as a county councillor."
Cllr Eaton said: "I'm very pleased to have won. I said in my election leaflet that I will be a strong voice for Melksham and I think that is what Melksham needs."
Rod Eaton (Cons) 535
Andrew Clayton (Lib Dem) 425
Margaret White (Lab) 66
Turnout: 31.4%
