Cameron Gough, a senior partner in Gough’s solicitors, the family firm founded by his grandfather, died on May 28, aged 86.
He was president of the Wiltshire Friendly Society, chairman of the Calne Alms Houses, chairman of the Calne Scouts and the youngest ever captain of North Wilts Golf Club. He was also clerk to the governors of St Mary’s School, Calne, as were his grandfather and father before him.
During the war he was captain of the motor gunboats MGB 75 and 81 and MTB 416. He was wounded on his 21st birthday and awarded the DSC for bravery beyond the call of duty.
Five years ago he went over to Normandy in MGB 81 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
He was married for 19 years to Elizabeth before her death from cancer. Two years later he met Jeanne, to whom he was married for 37 years. The couple were on holiday in Torquay when he was taken ill, and died in Torbay Hospital.
A memorial service is to be held at St Mary’s, Calne, at 3pm on June 26. Donations in his memory to Children with Leukaemia or Kids Company can be sent to Mr Gough’s executors at 73 High Street, Ramsbury.
