Born: May 30, 11.23am
Weight: 6lb 12 1/2 oz
Parents: Gemma Smith, 19, and John Stainer, 20, of Bradley Road, Trowbridge
Newborn Lilia Rose Stainer had already been named long before her mum had actually fallen pregnant, after she fell in love with the name while watching Strictly Come Dancing. Miss Smith said: “I had been watching Strictly Come Dancing ages ago when I thought one of the dancers’ names was lovely. I thought if I have a baby girl in the future I am going to call her Lilia as it is such an original name and I think it sounds beautiful.”
When Miss Smith got up to go to the toilet at 4.30am on Saturday morning she thought she had stomach cramps, but realised she was in labour, and soon afterwards she set off for Trowbridge Birthing Unit.
“It was quite scary as this is my first pregnancy. My mum and partner John were fantastic, supporting me throughout. The staff were brilliant as well putting my mind at ease,” she said.
“It was relatively straightforward and she was born a few hours later.”
