Firstly, I feel sorry for the many jobs lost at the Lafarge cement factory near Westbury and I wish the people involved the very best.

On a positive, without the constant smoke from the factory chimney generated by burning tyres and coal, the residents of Westbury have been able to enjoy their gardens without consideration of the wind direction, which has been from the east for much of the recent beautiful weather.

Being able to sit in my garden without the smell of sulphur and the fear of inhaling particulates and dangerous chemicals has been wonderful.

I would like to suggest that the factory is replaced by a holiday park, similar to Center Parcs in Warminster.

The leisure industry is a major growth business with more people deciding to holiday in the UK these days.

It could attract thousands of people per month who would spend money and give the local shops and attractions a boom.

It could employ hundreds of people to build and then run.

It would remove a terrible eyesore – the huge factory. It could be accessed directly by train if a simple station was constructed on the railway line that runs through the factory.

How environmentally-friendly is that? People in London get on a train and less than an hour-and-a-half later step off at a beautiful location situated just under the White Horse.

Environmental disaster removed – pumping out tonnes of CO2 – Ecological holiday village born – direct access by train.

The location is beautiful, if you don’t believe me, go to the Westbury Country Park and sit outside the Blue Circle Bar and enjoy the view towards the White Horse.

There is already a lovely golf course and fishing lakes.

It’s time, again, to make Westbury and surrounding area the beautiful place it used to be and of course, generate lots of new jobs.
