Widower David Prosser has spoken of his sadness after thieves stole sentimental heirlooms which belonged to his late wife.

The 72-year-old found he had been burgled when he returned to his home in The Gables, Frome Road, Trowbridge, last Wednesday after visiting friends.

Among £1,600 of items stolen was jewellery and a clock given to his late wife Anne, who died in 2007 after a short illness.

He said: “The thieves had prised open the front door and had gone through almost every room in my house and had taken an oak Georgian mantle clock that my daughter bought Anne, a dozen bottles of Hardy’s red and white wine, various liqueurs and a bottle of port that I had been given in a presentation box for my 70th birthday.”

Porcelain and bronze figurines were also stolen along with four watches, including one Mr Prosser was given for his 21st birthday which is engraved ‘David July 1957’, and another which belonged to his father. A ladies gold bracelet watch was also taken.

Mr Prosser added: “Most of the items are irreplaceable, the insurance company cannot replace them. I would love to see them again far more than the money.

“The only blessing is they haven’t damaged anything.”
