Guest house owner Joy Singer who had part of her garden wall demolished by an Airsprung lorry this afternoon has described the driver as heroic.

Mrs Singer who runs Elbury House bed and breakfast in Leigh Road, Bradford on Avon, was mowing her grass when she heard a terrific bang.

She said: "I ran to see what had happened and could see part of the lorry coming through my hedge. I immediately rang for the emergency services and while I we were waiting for them to arrive I went to see if the driver of the lorry was okay.

"He told me he was all right which was a huge relief and my priority as ordinary things can be mended."

It is understood the driver of the double container lorry swerved to avoid a car.

"It would seem he did a heroic job," said Mrs Singer.

She also saw a woman driver of the car involved sitting by the side of the road.

"She seemed to be in a huge amount of shock," said Mrs Singer.

She has lived at Ebury House for 12 years and said there have been numerous accidents at the junction.

"It is something of a black spot but I have never known anything like this before."

She said there were gallons of diesel spilling out of the lorry.

"I thought it best to ring for all the emergency services," she said.

The road is expected to be closed for several hours.
