A 26-year-old man has been detained under the Mental Health Act after trying to jump onto the railway track in Westbury.
Police received a report of a topless man sitting on the wall of Station Road railway bridge over the mainline into Westbury station, at about 6.45pm on Monday.
Police from Warminster attended the scene and closed the road while they talked the man down.
Mavis Choong, spokesperson for Network Rail, said: “One of our signallers saw a suspicious male on the over bridge so he notified police immediately and stopped all trains coming in and out of Westbury station because we didn’t know what the man was going to do.
“The police managed to talk him down and the station was reopened at around 7.15pm.
“Around eight trains were affected by the delay.”
The 26-year-old was taken to Green Lane Hospital in Devizes.
