A touch of Hollywood glamour could be felt around a Westbury village at the weekend as a film star theme was adopted for a yearly scarecrow trail.
More than 400 people helped to raise £400 for the local parish hall at this year’s Edington scarecrow walk on Sunday.
The event, which used to be a part of the village day celebrations, is now in its third year and takes place around the village.
Some of this year’s scarecrows included Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Finding Nemo, Kung Fu Panda, Forrest Gump, the Terminator and ET.
The walk is organised by village residents Ann Tottingham, Rhona Welham, Rhona Atterton, Kristina Shnitzer and Andy Hinton, who produced the artwork for the posters.
Mrs Tottingham from Little Court Lane said: “We decide on the category and then leave it up to the people to decide on what scarecrow they want to make and the clues to go with it.
“There were some great entries this year. I can still see the Dick Van Dyke scarecrow from Mary Poppins poking out of the chimney.
“We wanted to raise money for the parish hall because its vital to the community - it’s the only place meetings can be held in the village.
“A big thank you to the committee members, the many cake makers, people who helped to serve the refreshments, the scarecrow makers themselves, the Lamb Inn and our sponsors Edington Station Yard, who helped to pay for the posters, printing and prizes.”
Participants voted Jaws as their favourite scarecrow.
