Devizes Museum has a Bronze Age exhibition that is the best in Great Britain.
Yes, even better than the British Museum.
Yet the best pieces of the exhibition cannot be put out because they cannot afford the security.
Any wheelchaired person cannot visit all the exhibits because the museum hierarchy cannot afford a lift and therefore redesign the flow of the exhibits to make it accessible to all.
If you had lived in Victorian times benefactors who had made their fortune from industry, would have made funds available for these assets of education.
In fact that is how the collection in Devizes started.
In these days where are those benefactors and how can the museum survive ?
Well members of course play their part, tourists, speakers, gate fees and bequeaths help but this institution needs a real local hero to come to their rescue to meet their shortfalls.
If I was a multi millionaire I would secure their immediate future and discuss ways in which a secure economic footing could be found for them.
This would include a pristine carbon footprint and centre of excellence for schools, colleges universities and other museums.
How about it Sting?
