A 69-year-old paedophile from a village near Westbury has been sentenced to 10 years in jail after being found guilty of a series of sex crimes involving children.

Bruce Stewart, formerly of Greenhills in Edington and more recently of Colston Road, Devizes, was found guilty of 16 counts of sexual offences at Swindon Crown Court last Friday.

Stewart had already admitted 11 charges of making indecent photographs of children and one charge of possessing indecent photographs up to level 4, which is the level given to the more serious images depicting child rape.

He was found guilty of one charge of attempted rape on a female under 13.

He was also found guilty of one charge of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child under the age of 13, one charge of causing or inciting a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity, and one charge of sexual assault on a female under 13.

He was found not guilty of an alleged sexual assault on a male under 13. The offences were all alleged to have taken place between May 31 and September 1, 2007, April 30 and July 5, 2008 and July 6 and 13, 2008.
