The hard-working committee behind this year’s May Fair in Shaw near Melksham were pleased with results as the sun shone and families turned out in force.
The seven members of the committee had been planning the event, which was held on the playing fields by the village hall on Saturday, since September.
Following a fair in 2005 and 2007, this year’s event saw about 500 people turn up to visit stalls manned by village organisations, games, and a wood turning display.
Clive Briggs, who was on the May Fair committee with his wife Diane, said: “Coincidently the Shaw and Whitley Stampede took place at the same time from the playing fields so that was going on too with 140 runners taking part.
“We also organised a fun run, of 3km that took place with all proceeds going to CLIC Sargent.
“This was a race for children and people who wanted to dress up.
“All other proceeds from the day will go to the churches in Shaw and Atworth and the Shaw Village Hall.
“The May Fair was a great day with things for people to enjoy like a guess the weight of a pig game and crossing the greasy pole.
“That was very popular and I saw people queuing up for it at the end.”
