A picnic held near Bradford on Avon on Bank Holiday Monday could have helped set a new Guinness World Record for the biggest ever national picnic.
Debbie Fox, 41, and her husband John, 40, owners of the Friary Wood Guest House near Iford, hosted the event at 1pm which attracted just over 100 people.
Mrs Fox said: “We thought it would be a good idea to get involved.
“We are a family-orientated business and in fairness not a lot of families spend a lot of time together, us included.
“We have bolted it on to supporting a local charity too so the money will go to Dorothy House Hospice.”
As well as the giant picnic, Mr and Mrs Fox also held a raffle and tombola to help raise money. Funds are still being counted.
Fairground rides, egg and spoon races, and lambs brought in by a local farmer were among the other highlights.
Mrs Fox said: “The games were hilarious. I have never laughed so much in my life.
“For the picnic itself everybody had to be sat down to eat at 1pm and they had to bring out a picnic blanket and at least two courses, such as sandwiches and cake.”
It won’t be known until next month whether the World Record attempt has been achieved, but it is thought more than 12,200 took part nationwide.
