Gifted schoolgirl Katie Chandler proved that Holt really has got talent during the village’s first ever talent contest, hosted by ITV West presenter and actor Jon Monie.
The 13-year-old singer, of The Street, won first prize during Holt’s Got Talent last Saturday, beating 14 other original acts including a gospel choir, rugby singers, senior citizen soloists and junior breakdancers to the top spot.
The judging panel included Westbury singer/songwriter Leander Morales, who is appearing at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, author and musical director Jane Martin Scott from Taunton and ‘Simon Cool’, complete with flashing teeth and extremely high trousers.
The teenager sang her heart out with a powerful rendition of Colours of the Wind from Walt Disney’s film Pocahontas, which won her a glass trophy and a cheque for £50.
