A mountain biker was flown to hospital by the Wiltshire Air Ambulance after falling off his bike and breaking his leg in remote woodland near Warminster on Saturday evening.
Great Western Ambulance Service (GWAS) land crews called in the helicopter after reaching the patient, a man in his early 20s, who was a mile from the road. A friend who was cycling with him when the accident happened dialled 999 about 6.15pm and arranged to meet ambulance crews at Bradley Road, Warminster, to escort them to the patient.
GWAS Emergency Care Assistant Justin Whatley, who was first on scene, said: “On locating the male we found that he had fractured his lower leg, so we administered pain relief.
“Due to the terrain and a long walk back to the ambulance, we requested the Wiltshire Air Ambulance, as there was a field nearby suitable for it to land.
"With the assistance of a Fire Service crew from Warminster, the patient was placed on a spinal board and carried to the helicopter over rough terrain.”
He was flown to Royal United Hospital in Bath for further treatment.
