Organisers of the Bradford on Avon fun day will be anxiously watching the weather forecast for Bank Holiday Monday after last year’s annual event was cancelled because of torrential rain.

This year’s fun day, which usually attracts thousands of people, is scheduled to be held in Culver Close playing fields on Monday, from 11am to 5pm.

A display of classic cars, a Punch and Judy Show, a coconut shy, children’s rides and an all day car boot sale in the neighbouring Victory Field are among the attractions on offer.

Richard Bloom, 63, of Bradford on Avon, has been a member of the Lions Club for 26 years and acts as its publicity officer.

He said: “Last year our annual fun day had to be cancelled due to the weather so we’re hoping for a really good day this year.

“This is our 12th or 13th year since the event began and if it’s the 13th, I’m certainly not superstitious.”

Mr Bloom said he hopes the event will raise more than £3,000, as this is the average amount raised in previous years.

Money will be donated to local charities including Dorothy House in Winsley and the Wiltshire Air Ambulance Appeal.

Local performers and talent acts will be able to showcase their talent at this year’s event as busking sessions will be held throughout the day.

Bradford on Avon Lions Club has 24 members and will be running the event with the help of their partners, members of the local Air Training Corps and St John’s Ambulance, who will be on hand for first aid assistance.

Entry to the event is free and the organisers are expecting between 6,000-7,000 visitors during the day.

Anyone wanting to take part in the busking sessions are asked to call Judith Hersee on 01225 865851.
