Five men from an estate near Melksham have denied a charge of causing actual bodily harm to a man during an assault in the town centre.
The quintet appeared before district judge Simon Cooper at Chippenham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where they denied assaulting Robert Tasker on January 17.
The accused are: Sam Bourne, 20, of Halifax Road, Christian Coles, 20, of Valencia Court, John Smith, 19, of Barnes Wallis Close and Matthew Jenkins, 18, and Joshua Heathcote, 18, both of Sunderland Close.
The three solicitors representing the five defendants declined to make any representations at this early stage.
District Judge Cooper ruled the case should be tried at Swindon Crown Court.
It was adjourned for a committal hearing on July 7 at 9.45am at Chippenham Magistrates’ Court.
A date will then be set for a trial.
The five men were granted unconditional bail.
