Staff at a Melksham care home are investigating the history of their oldest building and are appealing to members of the public for help.
Workers at Samp-ford Care Home in Bath Road want to collect as much information about one of their buildings, which is only used by firefighters on training exercises, before it is demolished to make way for a new one.
Manager Andrea Cole said staff at the home, which has been running for more than 20 years, wanted to collate everything, from people’s memories to pictures of the building, which was once used as a children’s home.
She said: “From what we have worked out it was converted into a kids’ home some time around 1947 but it was around long before that. It is probably Victorian.
“We want to hear from anyone who lived in the home or anyone who has any pictures of how it looked inside outside.
“We are going to build an archival book and will keep it in our building. I am going down to the history centre in Chippenham over the next few weeks to find out what I can.”
Plans are being finalised to replace the building. These will be submitted to Wiltshire Council once complete.
