Chippenham Town striker Sean Seavill faces an uncertain future after suffering a serious knee injury playing for his college team.
The 22-year-old damaged his lateral collateral ligament in his final game of the season, playing for Hartpury College.
Seavill had already told the club he would be looking to play at a higher level next season but the injury setback could scupper a move.
He said: “I’ve been told I’ll be out for about 16 weeks.
“For it to happen in the last game of the season is very disappointing.
“It’s just really bad luck and very frustrating, I’ve been off my feet for two weeks.
“I went to kick a ball but hyperextended my knee.
“Straightaway I was in absolute agony but it wore off and I thought I was okay.
“After ten minutes though I couldn’t carry on.”
The striker now faces a race to be ready for the start of the season. He said: “Everything is a bit up in the air now, I’ll have to wait and see how it goes.
“I’m young and fit though so hopefully I can recover quicker than expected. It could be a blessing in disguise as it will give me extra time in the gym to put on some weight.”
Bluebirds’ boss Adie Mings said Seavill will be offered the chance to regain his fitness with club in pre-season.
Mings said: “We’re keen to have him back, we never wanted Sean to leave but he felt this was the right time to move on.
“We’ll monitor the situation and see how it goes.”
Mings also confirmed that Sam Allison, Luke Gullick, Aaron Wilson, Chris Snoddy, Scott Lye and Steve Casey have already committed to staying for next season.
