Chippenham Town defender Steve Casey is already looking forward to next season after being named manager’s player of the year at the club’s annual presentation night on Saturday.
Despite a mixed start to the season the former Calne centre-back has become a regular fixture in the back four.
He said: “It feels great to be named the manager’s player of the year considering I didn’t really get into the team until December.
“The first three months I was on the bench and picked up an injury and I ended up going back to Calne Town to get some games.
“But I got another chance and must have done all right.
“Hopefully I can carry those kind of performances into next season.
“By the end of the season we had a consistent back four and had built up a good relationship.
“Hopefully most of the lads will be coming back next season.”
For the rest of the players the next date in the diary is pre-season training on July 2 but Casey has a more pressing engagement.
He said: “I’m getting married on July 4 so I’ll be missing the first couple of weeks.”
Also receiving an award was Luke Gullick, who was named young player of the year, and striker David Pratt, who netted the supporters’ player of the year award.
Goalkeeper Chris Snoddy picked up two awards, grabbing both the player’s and Supporters’ Club player of the year.
It wasn’t just the players who were recognised: photographers Richard Chappell and Robin Foster were voted clubmen of the year and Fran Hunter was given the Endeavor award for outstanding contributions to the club.
Groundsman Rob Bullock was presented with an award for his tireless efforts over the past two seasons keeping the Hardenhuish pitch up to scratch.
Bullock’s work may yet gain further praise after the Bluebirds’ pitch was shortlisted for a national FA award, with the winners of that to be decided later in the year.
Other awards went to assistant manager and physio Tommy Callinan for his willingness to treat not only players from both sides but also injured fans as well.
Matchday stewards Leyla Garraway, Paula Foster, Carole Haddrell, Rob Dugdale, Tony Godwin and Bullock were also given awards for their work during home matches.
The final award was presented to director Jim Pithie, who is stepping down this year, for his long and loyal service to the club.
