PREMIER DIVISON: Almost a year to the day when Corsham Centre A beat Biddestone Social 1-0 in a game that was to determine who finished as 2007/08 Robson Taylor, Chippenham League Premier division, champions the teams are all set to meet at Meriton Avenue in what promises to be another gladiatorial battle that could decide who takes pride of place at the top of the table this season.

Last season saw the Centre take the title by the odd point and this season it could be just as close with Biddestone currently being tipped to deny Martin Bradfield’s Centre side a fourth successive title as the Biddy Boys have hit form of late and have netted 27 goals in their last two games with Jamie Lyons scoring 13 of them and from nowhere he has put himself in with a chance of claiming the top fight’s golden boot.

Biddestone beat the Centre 4-2 earlier this season when goals from Dan Lardner, Gary Banks (two) and Rob Pocock earned the villagers their first ever league win over the Centre, but if Dan Lardner and Danny Jones side are going to stop the Centre from picking up the premier division title to go with their knockout cup success then they are going to have to achieve a couple of firsts, they are going to have to become the first side in 67 games and since Blue Circle Saints defeated them 1-0 to claim victory at Meriton Avenue and they are going to have to be the first team ever to complete a league double over them.

This match like all the others between the sides should be a classic and although the Centre will be without Craig Gingell and Simon Gray they will be hoping that the players they have at their disposal will produce what is need to give them victory against a very good Biddestone side who are likely to have all their key players available for what should be their biggest game for many years and on this occasion Biddestone should emerge victorious.

Maud Heath Sports v Holt Maud Heath Sports entertain Holt at the Recreation Ground in Calne just five days after they suffered a 9-1 mauling at the hands of Biddestone Social, while opponents Holt may have suffered a similar fate on Thursday night when they took on Corsham Centre A.

Both teams may be a little shell shocked from their midweek exertions, and will be more than happy that this will be their final game of the season Holt who have lost their previous seven matches defeated Maud Heath 2-1 when they sides met last November with Neil Grant scoring both goals but with the way things have been going of late Maud Heath should avenge that defeat with a narrow victory of their own. Potterne FC v Dog & Fox Ashley Dog & Fox Ashley travel to Lavington on Sunday where they will face Potterne at the Northbrook and it is the Dog who have finished the campaign the better of the two teams and Russell Whatley’s side will be confident that they can go on and complete a league double over their hosts who they beat 4-0 back in October with Steve Roddy scoring all four of the goals.

Potterne should be very pleased with their first ever stint in the top flight and if results were to go their way they could achieve a top three finish which would have surpassed their expectations when the started the season, however if results were to go against them then Pete Huntley and Lee Sanders side may finish in fifth spot.

The result is likely to be a lot closer than the previous game and may even end up with the points being shared as both teams will be happy for the curtain to come down on what has been a good one for both teams.
