A memorial for a Warminster man who was shot dead in the Philippines will take place on Saturday, May 23 his family have confirmed.
Family, friends and anyone who knew Charlie Maxwell, 61, are invited to his wake, which will be held at The George Inn, in Longbridge Deverill, where Mr Maxwell used to be a regular.
The retired picture framer and restorer, who left Wiltshire to start a new life abroad last year, was shot twice in the chest on Sunday, April 12 after gunmen raided his home in Ubay, on the paradise island of Bohol, where he lived with his 21-year-old Filipina girlfriend, Charita del Rosario.
His only son Sean, 41, a postman from Alcock Crest, Warminster, brought back his father’s ashes on Wednesday after a private cremation was held in the Philippines.
Mr Maxwell’s ex-wife Jane, who he was married to for more than 25 years and who now lives in Devon, has been busy organising the memorial service.
His ashes will be transported on a Honda Goldwing motorbike and trailer - a favourite of Mr Maxwell’s - accompanied by a convoy of the majestic bikes down to Ladram Bay in Devon, where his ashes will be scattered by his family the day after.
The wake in Longbridge Deverill will follow the departure of his ashes on the Saturday, starting at 6pm. The event will include an Irish band and barbecue.
If you knew Mr Maxwell and would like to attend, you can call Ms Wells through the Wiltshire Times on 01225 773642.
