Picnickers will be attempting to break a world record on the next Bank Holiday Monday as part of an event celebrating National Family Week.
Debbie and John Fox, who run Friary Wood Guest House, near Iford, are hosting a picnic as part of the UK’s attempt to break the Guinness World Record, which is currently held by Spain, for the most people picnicking nationally at the same time.
Mrs Fox said: “We thought it would be great fun to hold an outdoor event that celebrates family life and the idea of trying to break the world picnic record seemed to fit the bill perfectly.
“The event will raise money for Dorothy House at the same time and we won’t be charging entry fees but we hope people will give generously.
“We have 20 acres of grounds, from formal gardens to pasture land and woods, so there will be loads of room for everyone to enjoy themselves.”
The couple, who recently took the country guest house over, will be running a cake stall, cream teas, a raffle, lambs from a local farm, children’s rides and face painting, from 11am until 4pm on May 25.
Everyone is asked to bring their own food and picnic blanket, so they can be counted in the total number of people taking part and must register on arrival before the picnic starts at 1pm.
