Vegetables are being grown by Trowbridge pupils who hope the quality of the produce will be good enough for use in the school kitchens.
Year 10 and 11 pupils at the John of Gaunt School in Wingfield Road, have been working on vegetable patches near the school’s science laboratories, picking which varieties to plant.
It is one of several eco-friendly projects being run at the school, with others focusing on renewable energy sources and recycling.
The school hopes to carry out environmental projects in the Trowbridge community in the near future.
Science teacher John Gillespie said: “I am really pleased by the enthusiasm of these young people and the way they see protecting the environment as a worthwhile activity, one for which they should be commended as they only get to work on these projects in their own time after school, or during breaks.”
Student Amanda Brooks said: “It was great being outside and doing something useful. I am looking forward to seeing how the vegetables grow.”
