Minis from across Wiltshire congregated at a pub near Melksham for an annual charity run, which this year was raising money for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Organised by the Moles Mini Club, which was set up by a Melksham family two years ago, the Moonraker Run 2009 was held over the weekend of April 25-26 and raised £216 for the air ambulance appeal.

On Saturday, mini owners took a walk along the Caen Hill locks near Devizes, before returning to the Three Magpies pub, in Sells Green, where they enjoyed a fancy dress party and barbecue, before camping overnight.

Tim Carter, 54, of Beech Avenue, Melksham, who set up the club with his wife Jane, 51, daughter Jess Ware, 29 and son-in-law Rob Ware, 28, said the Sunday saw 24 minis go on a 75-mile trip across Wiltshire, through Devizes, Avebury and Swindon and back through Purton, Cricklade and Malmesbury.

Donald Guppy, landlord at the Three Magpies, laid on a roast dinner for the mini fans as well as donating the camping fees to the club’s chosen charity.

Mr Carter said the weekend had been an enjoyable one.

“It was good as the weather held out for us. It was great fun,” he said.

“This year’s route was more through main roads and towns so we might look at going back through the villages next year.”

Moles Mini Club meets once a month at the Oliver Cromwell Pub in St Edith’s Marsh and has set up a Facebook group for people to have a look at. The club always welcomes new members.
