My wife and I were fortunate to be in the Palace of Westminster last Wednesday, Budget Day, and to attend Prime Minister’s Questions in a packed House of Commons.
There was, of course, a noisy and volatile atmosphere in the chamber. Even so, the Speaker did keep order, and MPs on all benches allowed him to do so.
Except, it seems, one, who provoked this irritated response from the Speaker: “Order. It is getting to the stage when every day I have to tell you, Mr Gray, to be quiet when a minister is replying in this House. You have got to pack it in.” (Hansard, April 22).
Mr Gray? James Gray, the MP for North Wiltshire, our own MP.
I wonder what views he holds on rude, boorish and anti-social behaviour and what sort of example he thinks he is setting, particularly for our young people.
