I object strongly to what appears to be a negative attitude on a report to tarnish the public image of professional lorry drivers who are subject to strict and enforced daily driving limits and weekly rest periods.
This report seems to be Not In My Back Yard syndrome that doesn’t like lorries and their drivers, but the fact is that everything we own and buy is transported by truck. What evidence do the residents have that it is the lorry drivers using the Spa Road park as a toilet, are toilets not provided by the council for the use of drivers?
If not, why not? Could it be locals that are using the area as a toilet and not the drivers?
If the truck park was there before the residents were there why have they complained as you wouldn’t move by an airport and later complain about excessive aviation noise and a future runway.
It is not the drivers’ fault that they see into, and over, neighbouring properties adjacent to the park. Modern vehicles are equipped with curtains, so if they want to change clothes, then you can draw the truck curtains. Why were (or one of) the residents shocked to see a female driver change her clothes in the truck?
Have they never seen a female body, what would happen if you went to a swimming pool changing room?
The activity of closing the truck park does not warrant this action by the council. There is a UK shortage for truckstops, resulting in vehicles resorting to parking in residential areas with no facilities. In contrast, in Europe truck parking is free and cheap meals are provided. In the UK motorways are subject to a charge of £15 to £25 per night for all trucks for parking.
