A multi-million pound world-class racehorse training centre near Warminster staged an open day to show off the culmination of its five-year renovation scheme.

An extended gallops, custom-built horse walkers, a barn, observation tower and owners suite are just some of the big developments to have taken place at Horses First Racing in Sutton Veny.

Client services manager Kelly Baker said: “We are really happy. We had more than 200 people turn out so that was great.

“The owner, Eamonn Wilmott, gave a welcome talk and overview of the place before the tour.”

One particular attraction for locals was a three-year-old grey filly named Sutton Veny, who is due to make her debut this year.

The centre is leasing five per cent shares in the 16-hand racehorse, offering shareholders the chance to meet the jockey and trainer, go into the paddock to see the horse and use the centre’s private box at Salisbury racecourse.

As part of the tour visitors were able to see the new horse walkers, including a sea-walker where horses pace round in chilled, salty water, which is good for their bones and joints.

One of the other recent additions on display on Saturday was a high-speed equine treadmill, delivered from Australia, to help the horses with their training without galloping.

A new barn that holds 20 horses takes the centre’s stabling capacity to 70.

A lounge has been built for their owners a lounge with a kitchen and dining area, as well as a large leather suite with TVs and views over the paddock.

A parade of horses, including some which had been flown over from Australia, were brought before the crowds to show off the calibre of the horses the centre trains.

Horses First Racing has been based at the former dairy farm for five years.
