Elderly people in Westbury who had their food delivered by Coopers supermarket face having to use a charity to get their groceries.
The Westbury and District Link Scheme has promised to do all it can to help people without their own transport get to the shops and post office after Coopers closes tomorrow.
The organisation provides volunteer drivers to take people to medical appointments, shopping visits or to see friends.
Phil Jefferson, chairman of Link’s management committee, said: “Westbury residents who are worried about how they are going to get to the shops or post office over the next few months are invited to ring us on our helpline.
“We only have the resources to visit shops and post offices in Westbury and Dilton Marsh but we will try our best to meet people’s needs.”
Coopers customer Margaret Frith, 77, of Studland Park, used the Link scheme for the first time on Monday to visit the dentist, and says she will now have to use the service to get her shopping.
She said: “I walk with a stick and if you use a stick you can only use one hand to carry your shopping, which limits how much you can buy.”
The Link scheme can be contacted from Monday to Friday between 9am and 1pm on 01373 859669.
