Teenagers at west Wiltshire schools have been getting to grips with surfing without a wave in sight this week as part of the Surf Anywhere campaign.
Students from five schools honed their surfing skills with the help of coaches from the British Surfing Association, which aims to give kids who don’t live near the beach a chance to try variations of the sport.
George Ward School students in Melksham were the first to try out the surfing techniques on Tuesday, followed by students at Clarendon College and Larkrise Special School in Trowbridge on Wednesday.
It was turn of students at St Laurence School in Bradford on Avon yesterday while those at the John of Gaunt School in Trowbridge were in line for the coaching today.
Quote to come....
The Surf Anywhere team is visiting 50 schools in Wiltshire, Bath, Bristol and Swindon over the next five weeks trying dry-land surfing, street surfing and indo-boarding.
All three activities are ‘surf derivatives’ and promote core fitness, balance and aerobic activity with the focus on fun.
The campaign supports the Government’s health and exercise campaigns to encourage children to do more sports in schools.
