Staff and pupils at Bellefield Primary School are preparing to welcome the Duchess of Cornwall next month, who cancelled her first scheduled visit after being struck down by bronchitis.

Camilla is due to tour around the newly merged Trowbridge primary school in Windermere Road on Monday, May 11.

The Duchess, who was initially due to visit on March 27, is said to be looking forward to the visit, as well as other rearranged engagements in Box and Kington St Michael near Chippenham.

Bellefield headteacher Steve Wigley said: “We are really looking forward to the royal visit and will do everything the same as last time with the tour and the assembly.

“However the plaque Her Royal Highness will unveil is being changed to say she visited the school, and not that she opened it.

“The staff feel really privileged that she has rearranged a date into her diary to come along and see the school. All the timings should be perfect after the first event.”

A Clarence House spokesman said: “The Duchess of Cornwall had to postpone her original visit as she had bronchitis but she is now well again and is very happy to put the date back into her diary.

“She is pleased about rescheduling the visit and is looking forward to going to Bellefield Primary School in Trowbridge and Box Pavilion as well as Kington St Michael village.”

Despite the disappointment villagers in Box felt when they found out that the original visit had been cancelled, they are now looking forward to the upcoming event, which will mark the official opening of the £350,000 pavilion on the recreation ground.

Box Parish Council clerk Margaret Carey said: “We are pleased to hear that the visit will take place on May 11 which is quite soon and everything is prepared from last time so we are all looking forward to it.”
