More than 1,000 people gathered at a village near Westbury at the weekend for one of the first vintage vehicles meetings of the year.

The Westbury Transport and Vintage Gathering, which is organised by the Westbury Preservation Society, is now in its 14th year and took place in the top field between Westbury and Bratton.

Keith Miller, chairman of the Westbury Preservation Society, said it was the biggest and most successful meet to date.

“I find myself saying each year that it’s been the best event so far and I find myself saying it again this year,” he said.

“We had a very good turn out with a whole host of entries, in fact we had double the number the vehicles than in previous years.

“We had vintage cars and trucks, including one that had been imported from the United States.

“The Cortina Club and Honda Gold Wing Club both paid us a visit, and all their vehicles were in pristine condition.

“One of the caravans on show has been all over Europe and Asia, and this year the owners are planning to travel around the United States.

“We even had a vintage lawnmower.

“There were also a number of military vehicles including a Canadian Second World War Chevrolet truck and a Daimler Ferret.”

The vintage show also included a mobile military museum. All profits from the event will go to a local charity, which has yet to be decided.

Any charity wanting to set up a stall at next the event can do so for free by contacting Mr Miller on 01373 864166.
