Plans for a May Fair celebration has caused a flutter of excitement in Bradford on Avon.

A bug and butterfly themed event will see bouncy castles, miniature steam train rides, face painting, arts, crafts and much more descend on the grounds of Christ Church Primary School from midday to 4pm on Monday (May 4).

Other activities include a small petting farm, roundabouts, nail art, badge-making and a range of stalls selling jewellery, cakes and bric-a-brac.

Neil Baker, headteacher at Christ Church School, said: “The May Fair is a much-loved event in the town and surrounding villages, so we wanted to make sure that all the family can come along and have fun without breaking the bank.

“However, we haven’t skimped in what’s on offer.

“Our theme this year is bugs and butterflies, which will be carried through with the flair and enthusiasm always shown by the children, parents and friends of the school.

So if your little ones want to dress up for the event, they can take part in our fancy dress competition.”

Food is also a big part of the event.

Bev Appleton, chair of the Friends of Christ Church School (FOCCS), which organises the event, said: “There’s our ever-popular barbecue for hot dogs and bacon rolls, plus healthier options at the Christ Church cafe.

“Make sure your kids leave room for some ice cream and candy floss, while the adults can relax with a glass of Pimm’s or a slice of cake and cup of tea.”

Admission programmes cost £1 and are available at the gate or in advance from Christ Church School, with children under 14 admitted free.

A free shuttle bus service will run from the Station Car Park to the school during the afternoon, and parking is also available at St Laurence School in Ashley Road.
