With Lafarge Cement Works in Westbury due to close at the end of the month, the Wiltshire Times would like to speak to former workers at the site.
On February 5, Lafarge revealed it was to mothball the factory with 65 employees facing potential redundancy, due to a downturn in the construction industry.
The factory, which was opened by Blue Circle in 1962, has had a mixed history.
Former US Vice-President Al Gore presented Lafarge with a top environmental prize at the Business in the Community Awards at the Royal Albert Hall in July 2007.
However the plant has also come in for criticism for burning tyres at the site and in 2004 the BBC aired a special ‘Inside Out’ programme on the environmental group The Air We Breathe, who were campaigning for the cement works to stop burning waste products.
If you would like to share your memories of Lafarge, or have been affected by the redundancies at the plant, please call James Williams on 01225 773641 or 01225 773638 or email him at jwilliams@newswilts.co.uk
