A look at the history of Shaw, on the edge of Melksham, this week, thanks to reader B Drew, who passed on some pictures from a Wiltshire News Picture Supplement from June 5 1953, which were found in an old book.
They show the opening celebrations of the Shaw Hill playing fields, one of many events held to mark Coronation year.
Dozens of young visitors enjoyed rides on Shamrock and Rosie the donkeys – the spire of Shaw Church can be seen in the background.
There is also a shot of the opening ceremony, with Mr HW Mountford, of the National Playing Fields Association, speaking to the crowds after the fields had been officially opened by Sir William Becher, who is seated on the platform on the left of the picture.
Another photo shows Mr H Williams, the physical training officer for Wiltshire County, who is pictured starting a football match between the Shaw Tigers and the Whitley Lions by heading, rather than kicking, the ball.
The original article does not recall which team triumphed in the local derby!
