The letter you published last week (Wiltshire Times, April 10) from the Conservative leader of the new Wiltshire Council under the title “Facts are wrong” managed to go on without disputing the accuracy of any of the facts from either your paper’s research or indeed from mine.
In the debate around the £5.5 million of public money they have spent giving former council chiefs pay-offs on average approaching £200,000 each, we are still largely in the dark.
Mrs Scott approaches these questions from the privileged position of being able to reveal selectively in her defence aspects of meetings of the council’s Conservative dominated implementation executive that were held in secret (both in March and July last year).
The reports they considered were marked confidential, and never published.
If all is as straight-forward and unavoidable as she would have us believe, the council should now publish these reports so that your readers can judge for themselves.
What could they possibly have to hide?
