PREMIER DIVISON: The pick of the matches in the Robson Taylor, Chippenham Sunday League, Premier division this weekend has to be the game at Meadow Lane where Westbury Rangers A entertain leaders Biddestone Social.
Biddestone who go into the contest on the back a Thursday night win over Miller Sports while Rangers had a tough game against Box Rovers. Biddestone know that Shaun Gardiner’s side will give them a very good game and if the hosts have got a full strength squad available they will be capable of beating them for the first time since goals from Marc Lanfear, Tim Coombes, Pete Ayton and Nick Mead earned them a 4-1 win way back in 2006, since then the Biddy boys have won all their four meetings. The match should be a classic and although Danny Jones and Dan Lardner’s Biddestone have seen a return to form in recent games the points will be hard to win as an ever-improving Rangers side know that a win for them is a must if they are to keep their own title hopes alive.
Maud Heath Sports v Winsley
Maud Heath Sports take on Paul Ranger’s Winsley side looking for their eighth win of the season. When the sides met back in September a Darren Holcombe treble earned Maud Heath a 3-2 as he cancelled out a Mike Little double. The score in the return match is likely to be another close one but unlike the first game Winsley who are one of the form teams look a good bet claim their 10th win of a season that at one stage looked to b heading for disaster but the villagers have seen a return to form and have only lost two matches since the start of 2009 as they have slowly got a number of their previously injured players back playing so Maud Heath had better prepare themselves for an onslaught from Ranger’s side who are looking in good shape at the moment and will be bidding for a fourth successive clean sheet.
Miller Sports v Semington Rovers
Old adversaries Miller Sports and Semington Rovers will get together for what could be the last time for a very long time as Miller have suffered relegation to division one, so they teams will have one less local derby to look forward too unless they are drawn together in next season’s knockout cup.
Over the years the two teams have been fierce rivals but more recently as players have departed both camps the rivalry has lessened so this match could be one of the most sporting between the clubs for many years.
Goals from Richard Allum and Josh Mills helped Semington to claim a 2-1 victory when the teams last met and it is Allan Clarke’s Semington side who should emerge triumphant again with a more convincing win. Potterne FC v Box Rovers Their should be a good match at the Northbrook, Market Lavington where Potterne are scheduled to welcome Box Rovers to their lair. Rovers convincingly won the return clash 5-2 with Liam Fullam scoring a hat trick. Potterne’s hopes of claiming a top two place in the very first season in the top flight was ended last Sunday with a defeat away at Winsley so Potterne will now be playing will pride as they look to see out the season on a high.
With two wins over Biddestone Social already to their name Pete Huntley and Lee Sanders side would love to finish with a few more wins from their remaining five matches but they have some tough games ahead and could eventually slip down the ranking to finish in fourth or fifth place.
The result of this game is really hard to call, but with home advantage Potterne may just have produce the goods that will give them maximum points for a 14th time this season.
