KEEN dancer and family woman Janet Frazer died at the Royal United Hospital in Bath on April 5, aged 76.
Born in Bristol, she was raised in Castle Combe where she attended the local school, leaving at 16 to take a two-year secretarial course at Trowbridge College.
In her early 20s Mrs Frazer joined the RAF volunteer force and enjoyed her training in Rudloe.
She met her future husband Roy Frazer at Westinghouse in Chippenham in 1973. The couple moved to Bath two years later and married at Trowbridge Register Office in 1976. The newlyweds moved to Melksham, first to Foresters Park and then to Scotland Road.
Mr Frazer said: “I never believed it until I met Janet that you could see someone and you’d automatically know you want to be with them.”
Her great love in life was dancing, a passion which she shared with her husband. The couple used to dance five times a week around the county. Mr Frazer said: “We decided to take up dancing shortly after we got married. We started with ballroom and latin dancing and then went onto sequence dancing, which was our favourite. It combines ballroom and latin, and there are around 48 different variations added each year.
“I’ve received so many cards from friends we met dancing and that is a great part of sequence dancing, because we’re all of a similar age the friendship is wonderful and I just want to thank everyone for their support.”
Mrs Frazer also enjoyed holidays. Mr Frazer said: “Last year we went abroad three times. We visited Sorrento in Italy which was absolutely beautiful. She always loved going back there. Before that we went to Cyprus and prior to that Malta.
“She also enjoyed staying in cottages in this country. She loved the National Trust and English Heritage so we always visited places of interest.”
Mrs Frazer also played for Christie Miller Bowls Club for 34 years, a club which her husband still plays for.
Mrs Frazer leaves two children, Stephen and Paula, from a previous marriage, five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Her funeral service takes place at St Michael’s Church, Melksham, today (Friday at 11am. Family flowers only, with donations in her memory for Dorothy House Hospice c/o Patrik Bewley, DJ Bewley Funeral Directors, 15 Bank Street, Melksham.
