More than 500 runners are expected to turn out at Corsham Football Club tomorrow for the annual St George’s 10k run.
The run, which starts at the football club at 11am, is being organised by Corsham Running Club and the town’s Rotary club and will go up Pickwick Road, along Park Lane and then through to Neston before returning along Prospect and then Pound Pill to finish back at the club.
Organiser Alex Fogwill, from the running club, said: “ We are expecting at least 500 runners this year to take part in the race, which is set to be a really good event.
“More runners are welcome to take part by logging onto the running club website or signing up on the day. Volunteers at both the running club and rotary club have been working hard to organise it this year.
“This year we have the added bonus of Corsham Wind Band who will be playing music at the war memorial, which is the 1k and 9k mark of the race.”
Among the runners are a team of four students from Corsham School who have decided to walk the route to raise money for their trip to a school in Morocco in July.
Year 9 students Sam Herries, 13, from Batheaston, Stephen Wood, 13, from Colerne, Gareth Dinsdale, 14, from Corsham and Lauren Crookalt 14, from Neston, will be walking with their backpacks in a bid to raise funds for the trip.
They are heading to north Africa with another seven students and mathematics teacher Alastair McLeod.
Sam said: “We are really looking forward to the trip in the summer as it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and isn’t something that we would be able to do on holiday with our families.
“We are taking part in the 10k run to get in practice for the walking we will be doing on the trip.”
The teenagers had to raise £1,500 each to take part in the trip, where they will be visiting a school in Marrakesh and helping out by painting walls. Afterwards they are trekking to the Sahara.
The group of four Year 9s will lead the 10k by starting an hour before the runners leave Corsham Football Club.
