A £1m care home for adults with learning disabilities could create 25 local jobs if it is given planning permission by Wiltshire Council.
Voyage, a national firm providing care and support for people with specialist needs, wants to demolish a house at 398 The Spa, near Bowerhill, and build a residential care home on the land.
Paul Constable, group development director for Voyage, said the eight-bed home would be built from scratch and would cost in the region of £1m.
He said the company had opened a similar home in The Down, Trowbridge, last summer and the Melksham project would be for people with physical and learning disabilities.
The new home will have wide corridors and wider showers in the en-suite bathrooms to provide care for residents.
He said: “We are looking at opening in September or October. In nine out of ten of our care homes we provide 24-hour support and this would be the case in Melksham.
“The plans would provide 25 jobs and we would predominantly be looking in the local area to hire people.”
