Residents of a village near Westbury will have the chance to look around its former primary school which has been converted into a house after closing five years ago.
Edington Primary School in Westbury Road, Edington, which is about 120 years old, closed in 1995 due to a shortage of pupils but continued to be used as a nursery until 2004 when it was sold by Wiltshire County Council.
Sisters Juliet, 45, and Yarah David, 36, from Monmouth, Wales, bought the old school at auction in 2007 and have now converted it into a four-bedroom house which they intend to sell.
The new owners of the school and Edington Parish Council have teamed up to organise an open day, which will give people the chance to look around the newly converted building on Saturday and Sunday, from 10.30am to 1pm.
Juliet David said: “Everyone who went to the school wants to see what we’ve done with it.
“I’ve restored a lot of the original features like the stonework, which was painted over. All the windows have been spun back to what they were and look beautiful.
“I’ve never done anything like this before in my life and to be honest it’s nearly killed me.
“It’s been a fantastic experience though because we’ve been able to do whatever we like with the building and make it our own.”
George Fraser, chairman of Edington Parish Council, said: “We approached Juliet because the council had seen her plans and we thought people would be interested to see the conversion.
“She was very positive towards us and welcomed the idea of an open day.
“It’s a great opportunity for former pupils to reminisce when they went to school there.”
Historic photographs of the school will be on display at The Lamb Pub opposite the school in Westbury Road throughout Saturday.
If you have any photos of the school you can take them along to the event.
