A 24-year-old man has been jailed for four years and nine months after stabbing his former girlfriend's new partner in the neck.
Alexander Conduit, of West Parade in Warminster, attacked 28-year-old Slovakian national Vilam Basara at his former girlfriend Zoe South's house in Woodland View, Dilton Marsh, on December 13.
Bristol Crown Court was told how Conduit had cocaine and alcohol in his system when he grabbed a 20cm-long knife from Miss South's kitchen sideboard and used it to stab Mr Basara in the neck, leaving him needing emergency treatment at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.
Prosecutor Andrew Cullum told the court how Mr Basara heard Conduit say just before the stabbing: "Somebody going to die today, somebody going to die".
Mr Cullum said Conduit had constantly called and texted Miss South on December 12, suggesting he should come over to her house, saying he would be there in five minutes.
At about 3am on December 13, Conduit arrived at Miss South’s home and got in through a kitchen window.
Mr Basara confronted him and a fight broke out in which Conduit was hit over the head with a wok and Mr Basara suffered a dislocated shoulder and stab wound.
About an hour after the incident, Conduit text his sister saying, ‘phone Zoe and see if he alive’.
Conduit will serve half the sentence in prison and the rest on licence.
He has already served 121 days of his sentence after being remanded in custody following the stabbing.
Conduit admitted a charge of wounding with intent after the prosecution agreed to reduce the charge from attempted murder.
