WHO DRINKS THERE?: Landlord Ben Wood said: “Generally we’re a pub that has a lot of local trade, although everybody is welcome here and we’re certainly worth a visit.” Customers are drawn from all age groups, and the pub is very sport-oriented, with four screens and the capability of showing three different channels simultaneously.
FOOD AVAILABLE?: A lunch menu is served from noon to 2.30pm every day except Tuesdays, and features such keenly-priced pub staples as baguettes, pies, home made chilli and burgers - the burgers are the most popular items on offer. Special evening football menus are sometimes offered to coincide with big games.
SPECIAL EVENTS?: The pub’s screens show all major sports fixtures. There are pool, darts and cricket teams and regular outings for customers that include everything from clay pigeon shooting to karting. Five charity collecting tins support local and national good causes including the Prospect Hospice and the Wiltshire Air Ambulance. There is a loyalty scheme in which anybody buying 15 pints or 15 glasses of wine in 18 days receives a 16th free.
CHILD POLICY: Supervised children are welcome until 9pm.
DISABLED ACCESS?: Dating back to 1612, the pub is the oldest in Wootton Bassett, and features some steps and narrow doorways. However, help is always on hand.
