PREMIER DIVISON: It’s all change at the top of the Premier Division of the Robson Taylor, Chippenham League as Biddestone Social returned to the summit after their 2-1 victory over Maud Heath Sports was coupled with former leaders Potterne suffering a defeat away at Winsley.

Biddestone may have struggled for a side to take on Maud Heath but those players who did turn up at Yatton Road did enough to earn the Biddy boys the points that helped them regain pole position.

Biddestone took the lead on 29 minutes when a long punt up field from keeper Steve Hale was headed on by Danny Jones to Gary Banks who fired home from 12 yards.

Biddestone’s lead lasted all of two minutes before netted Clive Slade netted Maud Heath’s equaliser.

Biddestone sealed their all important win 12 minutes from time when Dan Lardner’s free kick was headed down to Gary Banks by Jake Jefferies and Banks volleyed home a beauty to earn Biddestone their success.

Dog & Fox Ashley 9, The Ship FC 0

Dog & Fox Ashley defeated The Ship 9-0 at their St Laurence School, just a few days losing 4-1 against Corsham Centre A.

Mark Gerrish opened the scoring for the Dog on 20 minutes and his second of the game gave the hosts a 2-0 half time lead.

The floodgates opened up in the second half as the Dog hit another seven goals, Russell Whatley made it 3-0 before Gerrish completed his hat trick, Steve Wickings made it 5-0 on 60 minutes with his first of the game, Wickings then added his second prior to Dan Fowler who had a hand in four of the Dog’s goal got his name on the score sheet.

Two massive clearances from the Dog’s keeper Craig Guthrie led to goals eight and nine, Gerrish was first to profit from Guthrie’s long punt up field as he bagged his fourth of the game and his teams eighth, Steve Wickings also got on the end of a Guthrie kick to seal his own three timer with the Dog’s ninth of the morning.

Miller Sports 1, Box Rovers 5

Miller Sports suffered their 18th straight defeat as they were beaten 5-1 by Box Rovers at the Beeches. Once again Miller gave it their all but they were unable to get anything from their battling performance as Rovers raced to a 3-0 half time lead but had it not been for Miller’s stand-in keeper Paul Chick the deficit may well have been a lot more.

Adam Taylor’s brace and Pete Tye’s single gave Rovers a 3-0 half time lead.

Jamie Harrison made it 4-1 before Antony Jenkins pulled a goal back for Miller from the penalty spot.

Ben Cogswell’s stunning 20 yard first timer made up Rovers five, but their star performer was Sam Lye who had a great game and was denied a goal by the woodwork.

Westbury Rangers A 0, Corsham Centre A 2

Having lost out to Corsham Centre A in the Eric Hughes Memorial Knockout Cup semi-final a fortnight ago, Westbury Rangers A suffered a second defeat at the hands of Martin Bradfield’s side which was a very vital win for the three time defending champions.

After a goalless first half Liam Ralph gave the Centre the lead and a goal two minutes from time by 17-year-old James Cauldwell earned the Centre a 2-0 triumph and their second important victory in the space of four days.

Winsley 3, Potterne FC 0

Paul Ranger’s Winsley side must wish that they could play Potterne every week after they completed a league double over their hosts at Brown’s Park, Freshford.

When the sides met at the start of February, Winsley won 3-0 and by virtue of the same scoreline Winsley ended their hosts stay at the top of the table and with the defeat defiantly ended the Tangerines and White’s hopes of claiming a top two finish.

Winsley were indebted to goalkeeper Chris Birleson for their win as he was outstanding in keeping Potterne out on numerous occasions as they had the better of the play but couldn’t find away past their hosts organised back line.

Mike Little scored Winsley’s opener on seven minutes after a great pass from manager Ranger.

Matt Little set his brother Mike up for his second of the game on 21 minutes and the scoring was completed by Phil Little when he picked up a long ball from Birleson and chipped home number three to give Winsley their fourth win on the trot and their third successive clean sheet of which two of them have been against sides in the top three.

Corsham Centre A 4, Dog & Fox Ashley 1 (Midweek Result)

Thursday night saw the start of the midweek fixtures from the Robson Taylor, Chippenham Sunday League and it was three time defending champions Corsham Centre A who boosted their hopes of claiming a fourth straight title as they defeated old adversaries Dog & Fox Ashley 4-1.

With leaders Potterne without a game, and second placed Biddestone Social missing out on the chance to reclaim the number one spot when both themselves and Westbury Rangers A postponed their game as both sides were struggling to field a team it was Martin Bradfield’s Corsham side who took advantage of the situation.

Tim Jefferies gave the Centre the lead on 20 minutes when he was on hand to tap home a rebound. Jefferies doubled the Centre’s lead on 35 minutes when he beat the Dog’s offside trap to make it 2-0.

The Centre opened up a three goal lead shortly after the restart when a rejuvenated Simon Gray fired home. Steve Wickings pulled a goal back for the Dog on 55 minutes when he picked the top corner from 25 yards out.

Simon Gray had the final say when he added his second and the Centre’s fourth in the 65 minute in a match that was reduced to 80 minutes due to the fading light.

Box Rovers claimed a third successive victory over a Maud Heath Sports who combined age on the night totalled 379 years, Stuart Beeho’s Rovers side needed just the one goal to seal their victory and it was a first half penalty from Tom Smith that earned them a 1-0 success.
