PREMIER DIVISON: Having missed out on a match last Sunday, Potterne will be pleased that they are still top of the Robson Taylor, Chippenham League Premier division when return to action this weekend with what promises to be a tough game away at Winsley who have already beaten Pete Huntley and Lee Sanders side 3-0 this year thanks to goals from Neil Hannaford, Mike Little and Dean Ranger.

Winsley defeated fierce rivals Dog & Fox Ashley last weekend so they will be brimming with confidence ahead of their showdown with Potterne who still have a very good chance of claiming a top two placing in their very first season in the top flight, but with some very hard games on the horizon they will have to being their push for silverware by denying Winsley a fourth successive victory which might be easier said that done as Paul Ranger’s side could climb into the top half of the table with a win.

Biddestone Social v Maud Heath Sports

Biddestone Social will be hoping that they will start this weekend’s round of fixtures as leaders of the premier division, Biddestone and their opponents Maud Heath Sports will be playing their second game in four days and if Biddestone managed to get the better of Westbury Rangers A on Thursday night then they will be in pole position.

Whether they are top of the pile or in second spot Biddestone will take some beating as Maud Heath have lost all their previous six meetings at the hands of Biddestone and this match is unlikely to see a reverse of their fortunes.

Biddy should take the points on offer to put themselves back in the mix for an assault on a top two placing and if they can get a few of their walking wounded back in time for the sprint finish to the winning line they could become serious title contenders once again.

Dog & Fox Ashley v The Ship FC

Dog & Fox Ashley host Trowbridge based The Ship at St Laurence School, just a few days after taking on three time defending champions Corsham Centre.

Dog & Fox could well be still struggling for a side for their second meeting of the season with Lee Hayward’s latest batch of youngsters.

The Ship may have won just six of their 18 matches to date but one of those victories came against the Dog who they beat 5-3 back in October when Liam Milburn top scored with a four-timer.

The Dog should avenge that loss but seeing as they could be missing a few of their key players for the return match things may not be as straightforward as one would expect them to be and although they are tipped for a comfortable win the result could be a close one.

Miller Sports v Box Rovers

Miller Sports are likely to suffer their 18th straight defeat when they entertain Box Rovers at the Beeches, Shaw this Sunday. Rovers won the return match 4-1 and even though they have been struggling with an increasing injury list of late they should have the personnel available to beat Tim Knight’s side for a second time this season.

Miller have four games left in which they hope to claim what would be only their second win of what has been a torrid campaign and unfortunately for the Miller boys they will probably finish the season without achieving their goal, but it won’t be for a lack of trying and there is no doubt that they will give it their best shot again this week but as with all but one of their games their efforts are likely to count for nothing.

Westbury Rangers A v Corsham Centre A

Having lost out to Corsham Centre A in the Eric Hughes Memorial Knockout Cup semi-final a fortnight ago, Westbury Rangers A will be biding to avenge their 7-3 extra time defeat when the two teams meet at Meadow Lane this coming Sunday.

The match is a big one for both teams as they are still in the hunt for the title. Rangers won the corresponding fixture last term when they become the first team to beat the Centre in 98 league matches, so Shaun Gardiner’s side know that they have the beating of the three time defending champions but if they are going to keep their hopes of denying the Centre a fourth successive title they are going to have to be at their very best.

The result should be another close one and with no extra time this weekend the match may just end in a draw.
