Westbury Town Council is considering taking over the responsibility of issuing consent for street trading licences in the town.

Town councillors discussed the possibility at a general purposes committee meeting at the Laverton last night.

Up until March 31, West Wiltshire District Council dealt with street trading licences but now the council is defunct, Westbury Town Council is keen to assume responsibility.

Town clerk Les Fry said: “We’re going to explore whether we can take on the role of street licensing just in Westbury, but it will take a lot of research.”

At the moment it costs street traders £60 to set up a stand in the town.
