WG Parr Trophy Final
More than 200 supporters made the most of the glorious sunshine as they watched Mickey Hawkes’ second division side AFC Melksham become the first team this season to claim silverware.
They beat first division opponents White Hart Combe 2-0 in the final of the Westernsport Trophies-sponsored competition at Corsham Town’s Southbank ground.
But the gloss was taken of Melksham’s celebrations following an injury to Ashley Wheeler that resulted in the game being held up for 15 minutes before he was airlifted to hospital.
He was diagnosed with concussion and discharged later on Sunday night.
Lee Jackson scored Melksham’s opener on 23 minutes and Steve Pegler wrapped the victory up with the crucial killer goal on 89 minutes.
Ken Clarke from sponsors Westernsport Trophies presented winning captain Gareth Evans with the trophy and players from each side with mementoes of the game.
Melksham’s Wayne Bailey received the player of the match award.
